Host Campus - University of Ottawa

University of Ottawa

The University of Ottawa is located in the heart of the nation's capital. Over the years, the institution has emerged as a vibrant "centre of learning", with more than 38,000 students, as well as teaching and support staff. As the largest bilingual university in North America, the University is a major player in the cultural and economic development of the National Capital Region. It is one of Canada’s top research universities.

The University's bilingual character is one of its key strengths.

In keeping with its mandate to promote bilingualism and biculturalism in a multicultural environment, the University offers a dynamic mix of teaching and research programs in both of Canada's official languages. These include pace-setting ventures in co-operative and distance education. The students, staff and faculty comprise a unique community of learning that is a reflection of the strengths and diversity of our great country.

Dining facilities

During CWSF 2008, most of the meals will be served on campus. The participants and delegates will be eating in the University Centre cafeteria, only a few minutes away from the residences. It is the University of Ottawa’s largest dining facility; it can accommodate up to 600 people at one time.

Chartwells provides food services on campus. The company has a successful track record in providing special event and off-site catering services across Canada, including concessions, conventions, trade and consumer shows, concerts, athletic events, banquets and meetings.

Display Area…and Sports Facilities

Projects will be set up and exhibited for judges, VIPs and public in the Montpetit Hall gymnasiums, a 24,000 square-foot area. This location is perfectly suited for this purpose, having abundant space to allow wide aisles for privacy during judging and good traffic flow during public viewing days, as well as abundant storage space.

Montpetit Hall is located in the heart of the University of Ottawa campus, a brief walk away from the cafeteria and the residences. It is one of two U of O sports complexes. It also houses a 50-metre pool equipped with diving boards and a 10-metre diving tower, a dance studio, a fitness centre, a martial arts room and racquetball and squash courts.

The newer sports installation, located on King Edward Avenue, is one of the largest and most modern complexes in Eastern Ontario. It includes two ice surfaces, a modern fitness centre, squash courts, a multi-sports field, a multi-purpose sports room, a sports medicine centre and a rehabilitation centre.
